RING O’ ROSES

Project Brief- Ring O’ Roses is a project that seeks to prevent the construction of a third runway at Heathrow Airport by investigating how the international airport could work in harmony with the local community, and the environment, to provide sustainable economic growth for the overall site.

Project Proposal- The local production of a natural and sustainable perfume sold at Heathrow Airport duty-free. The project has developed a circular economy that reuses waste from the airport to generate renewable energy, source local construction materials, and provide perfume ingredients. The local production process, and the concept of returning waste in the form of a fresh scent, critically addresses the global consumer culture of airports, as well as reminding users to be thoughtful about what we throw away. Construction materials include repurposing the fuselage from redundant planes (forming an undulating landscape roof) and using treated human sewage for biosolid bricks. The design seeks to create experiences that reconnect users with nature and encourage positive use of the smell senses.

DOGGERVILLE ISLAND

Project Brief- In response to the increasing threat of sea-level rise, the brief is to design a resilient island settlement on the River Thames. This community is an amalgamation of individual but interacting studio projects.

Project Proposal-  Recognising the River Thames is a gateway for rubbish reaching the sea, my project explores the use of potatoes, grown aeroponically, to produce an alternative to non-biodegradable materials such as plastic and MDF. The project is comprised of an element of industry, agriculture, and housing, which forms part of the collective community called Doggerville Island.
